About Us

The Compass Owners Club began its life when four Compass owners got together and with some assistance from the factory, they contacted other Compass Owners and in 1983 an Inaugural Rally was held at Witton Castle in County Durham on the May Bank Holiday weekend. Although the weekend was described as ‘the wettest and muddiest May Day ever‘, the rally was very successful with seventy-three outfits present.

An inaugural meeting was held during the rally at which the Officers of the Club, together with the Regional Representatives, were elected and the members voted to adopt the constitution and rules for the Club.

The aim of the Club is to promote the interests and fellowship of Compass caravan and motorhome owners, and to foster relations with organisations with similar aims.

In its first year the club held another two successful rallies - at Crooklands in Cumbria and at Bledlow Ridge in Buckinghamshire. At the end of that year there were a hundred and forty members. The following year saw nine successful rallies and membership numbers continued to grow.

Over the years the number of rallies has increased to approximately 30 per year and at the end of 2007 the Club had successfully ran 772 events. Venues have been found throughout the the country - from the north of Scotland to the South Coast and Cornwall. These have been in delightful areas which have catered for the many interests of our members. There have also been a number of successful holiday rallies. The Club has also held a number of rallies in France, Holland and Eire.

The rallies, on average, attract about twenty vans, and this leads to a friendly atmosphere on site. Each rally is organised and run by members, although help is always at hand from other members and members of the committee.

In 1998, Compass Caravans And Motorhomes Limited were taken over by the Explorer Group Ltd., who also build Elddis, and Buccaneer caravans and motorhomes. Initially production continued at the Langley Park site, however the Explorer Group decided to consolidate most of its manufacturing onto one site, and in 2000 moved into a new facility at  Delves Lane, Consett, County Durham.

Once a year, during a conveniently located rally, the members visit the factory, an event that is always well attended. This is usually timed to allow the members a preview of  the following year's new models. Members of the factory staff conduct tours of the factory, which allows members not only to see how the caravans and motorhomes are constructed, but also to exchange ideas and points of view.

The Club had a membership of around 147 at the end of the 2007 season. The membership year begins 1st January and ends 31st December. Those joining in the final four months of the year will have their Membership extended to 31st December of the following year.

Each year an Events Programme is published which details all that years events, how to get there and what attractions are available. The Club also publishes four Newsletters a year, which are sent to each member. The Newsletters have all the latest Club news, committee reports, articles of interest and reports from each rally.

Membership is £16 for your first year, and then its just £15 per year after that. If you are interested in quiet weekends away in a warm and friendly atmosphere, then become a member of the Club, and come and join us.

We Look Forward To Meeting You.
